The Educator is the official student publication of the College of Education. It started as a laboratory campus paper for English major students taking journalism courses and the first issue was published in 1985. The first editor-in-chief was Ms. Mercedes H. Blancas and the adviser was Dr. Estefania W. Kollin. After several years of hiatus, the paper was revived in 1993 with Mr. Reynoel Bueno as EIC and Dr. Anselmo Roque as adviser. Other advisers of the paper were Mr. Angelo G. Calaunan (2001), Prof. Myla L. Santos (2001) and Dr. Regidor G. Gaboy (2004 to present).
In school year 2004-2005, the paper held its first training program for campus journalists and paper advisers entitled “First Draft.” It was also this year that the first magazine issue was released. Special issues on the everyday coverage of the annual intramural games started in the same year.
A sports journalism photography contest was organized in SY 2010-2011. During the same year, the paper staffers won 1st Runner-Up Overall during the 3rd USSC-Collegian Seminar Workshop on Campus Journalism on February 12-13, 2011.
The paper has been a training ground for aspiring campus writers in the College. Its alumni had grown to become award-winning campus paper advisers themselves.
The Educator is published twice every semester. To become part of the paper, one should be a bona fide CED student and must pass the qualifying exams.
